L&T wins Bihar contract for 185 MW solar PV plant with 254 MWh storage
Larsen & Toubro's Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) vertical announced that they had secured a domestic order to build a 185MW Solar PV Plant combined with a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) of 254 MWh capacity in Bihar. The initiative aims to strengthen Bihar?s renewable energy capacity as part of its strategy to address climate change and meet increasing energy needs.
The Solar PV plant, situated in Kajra, Lakshisarai district, along with the BESS, is designed to improve grid stability by storing solar energy during low-demand periods and releasing it during peak times. Moreover, the BESS will help stabilise fluctuations in generation, contribute to frequency regulation and voltage support, and offer black start capabilities to expedite grid restoration after outages.
A Ravindran, Senior Vice President & Head of Renewable Strategic Business Group, PT&D, commented that the project marks a valuable addition to their Renewable EPC portfolio, which already encompasses 18 GWp of cumulative capacity from commissioned and ongoing solar and wind projects. He highlighted their extensive experience in handling over 1.5 GWh of storage capacity for Battery Energy Storage Systems, positioning them as preferred EPC partners for developers worldwide.
T Madhava Das, Whole-time Director & Senior Executive Vice President (Utilities) at Larsen & Toubro, emphasised their expertise in delivering renewable energy solutions across various technologies, including ground-mounted and floating solar generation, large-scale and distributed energy storage systems, efficient transmission and distribution networks, and digital energy solutions. He mentioned their successful execution of GW-scale projects in India, the Middle East, and the Far East, underscoring their commitment to safety, quality, and timely project delivery.
Larsen & Toubro, a USD 27 billion Indian multinational enterprise with a legacy of over eight decades in EPC Projects, Hi-Tech Manufacturing, and Services, maintains a steadfast focus on delivering high-quality solutions and ensuring customer satisfaction.
