L&T bags K-RIDE's suburban rail project

After a long delay, the Rail Infrastructure Development Company-Karnataka (K-RIDE) has awarded a tender for civil works of suburban rail project's corridor 4 (Kanaka Line). Larsen and Toubro will construct the 46-km rail line that connects Heelalige (near Electronics City) and Rajankunte, a locality in the north.

K-RIDE issued a letter of acceptance to the contractor for design and construction of the elevated line. The contract doesn?t cover the construction of 19 railway stations proposed on this corridor. The project cost is Rs 1,040 crore. The contractor will also build a double-decker alignment of 1.2km that will cover Majestic-Devanahalli and Heelalige-Rajankunte line near Yelahanka. At Benniganahalli, the proposed suburban rail for a length of 500 metres will be built below the Namma Metro line. K-RIDE claimed the shared alignment (common right of way) at Benniganahalli is a first-of-its-kind project in India.

Earlier, K-RIDE had awarded a tender to the same contractor for building corridor 2 from Byappanahalli to Chikkabanavara for a length of 25km. Officials said tenders for other two corridors Majestic to Devanahalli and Kengeri to Whitefield  would be invited shortly.
