Longest Rail Flyover Boosts Railway Connectivity

Summary (200 words): In a significant stride towards enhancing railway infrastructure, the South Central Railway (SCR) zone has inaugurated the longest rail flyover on August 25, 2023. Constructed between Gudur and Manubolu railway stations in Vijayawada Division, the flyover spans 2.2 kilometers, making it the seventh Rail over Rail (RoR) project in the zone. The project was executed by the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL). This accomplishment holds paramount importance as it will alleviate congestion at the busy Gudur railway station, a pivotal interchange between South Central Railway and Southern Railway. The flyover's strategic placement on the Grand Trunk Route promises to streamline train movements along this saturated section, bolstering operational efficiency.

The Gudur-Manubolu Rail Flyover was completed within a two-year timeline. Utilizing Pre-stressed Concrete (PSC) and Composite girders ensured structural resilience and cost-effectiveness. The project was meticulously designed to fit the available railway land, mitigating the need for additional land acquisition. This innovation will eliminate delays caused by cross-movements, heighten average train speeds, and accommodate 32.5 Tonnes of axle load. Overall, the flyover stands as a testament to Indian Railways' commitment to modernizing its infrastructure for improved connectivity and smoother operations.
