Locals urge CM to opt for road bypass over flyover at Dandeavaddo

Chinchinim villagers respectfully requested Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister, to instruct the Public Works Department (PWD) and the National Highway authorities to construct a road bypass instead of a flyover on the Dandeavaddo stretch of NH66.

The villagers, led by Sarpanch Frank Viegas and Velim MLA Cruz Silva, also raised the long-standing issue of building the Chinchinim Panchayat Ghar and a multi-purpose project on panchayat land that was acquired more than 15 years ago.

The delegation met the Chief Minister at the St. Sebastian Chapel junction in Chinchinim as he was returning home from a visit to the Cutbona fishing jetty. The Velim MLA, Sarpanch, and panchayat members explained to the Chief Minister that the proposed flyover at Dandeavaddo would not alleviate traffic congestion. They emphasized that a road bypass, which aligns with the original highway expansion plan, would better address the need for traffic decongestion.

In response, the Chief Minister assured them that he would discuss the villagers' concerns with PWD officials to determine the most feasible route for the highway.

Later, Velim MLA Cruz Silva informed the media that the Chief Minister had committed to arranging a meeting between PWD officials and villagers to discuss the issue. Cruz added that the Chief Minister had also pledged to initiate construction of the Chinchinim Panchayat Ghar promptly.

Sarpanch Frank Viegas told the media that the delegation had explained to the Chief Minister how a road bypass would be more effective for highway expansion than a flyover. He further stated that they had requested the Chief Minister to expedite the long-delayed construction of the Chinchinim Panchayat Ghar.
