Kundli in Haryana to Become 6th NCR City for Delhi Metro Expansion
The Union Cabinet approved the Rithala-Narela-Kundli metro corridor, which will extend the Delhi Metro's Red Line (Rithala to Shaheed Sthal) to become the sixth NCR city for the metro, following Noida, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad, Bahadurgarh, and Faridabad. This new corridor will be the first to connect Haryana and Uttar Pradesh through Delhi. The Red Line, which currently extends to Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh, will now cover key locations in central and east Delhi. The Rithala-Narela-Kundli extension will be the fourth line to enter Haryana, joining the Yellow Line (Gurgaon), Violet Line (Faridabad), and Green Line (Bahadurgarh).
Delhi Metro's network already includes two cities from Uttar Pradesh—Noida and Ghaziabad—served by two Blue Lines. The Rithala-Narela-Kundli corridor will span 26.5 kilometres and include 21 stations. It is expected to significantly enhance connectivity to the Narela and Rohini sub-cities, where numerous housing projects and educational institutes are under development.
This corridor will not have any interchange stations as it reaches Kundli in Haryana. Key stations along the corridor will include seven sectors of Rohini, Barwala, Sanoth, New Sanoth, the Bawana industrial area, Anaaj Mandi, Narela DDA Sports Complex, Narela Village, Depot Station, and Narela Sector-5.
Earlier in March, the Cabinet had approved two more corridors under the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's Phase IV expansion: Lajpat Nagar to Saket G Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha, which are extensions of the Golden and Green lines, respectively. A senior DMRC official stated that both corridors are in the pre-tendering stage, and work is progressing to obtain the necessary statutory clearances.
Additionally, DMRC is working on 65 kilometers of three priority corridors under Phase IV: Janakpuri West to RK Ashram, Majlis Park to Maujpur, and Aerocity to Tughlaqabad. The 12.3-km Majlis Park to Maujpur corridor on the Pink Line is expected to be ready by 2025, while the Aerocity to Tughlaqabad (Golden Line) and Janakpuri West to RK Ashram (Magenta Line extension) corridors are likely to be completed by 2026.
