Kolkata Metro: Joka-Majerhat corridor construction started

Construction to connect the Metro Rail?s Joka-Majerhat stretch in the southern outskirts of Calcutta with the heart of the city is progressing rapidly.

A statement from Calcutta Metro announced that the construction work has commenced on the Mominpur to Park Street segment of the Purple Line.

Construction for the Victoria Metro station is proceeding smoothly. Special measures are being taken to monitor and control vibration levels to protect the nearby Victoria Memorial Hall.

Some trees at the station site were obstructing construction. These trees have been transplanted to a nearby area following all stipulated norms. A total of 22 trees have been relocated to Kamardanga railway land in the eastern part of Kolkata.

For tunneling work on the Khidderpore to Park Street stretch, two Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) will be deployed from the Khidderpore launching shaft. Currently, the construction of this launching shaft within the St. Thomas School premises at Khidderpore is underway.

The Purple Line will eventually connect Joka with Esplanade.
