Kolkata Metro boosts fleet: 2 new rakes from China; 11 more in 6 months

Kolkata Metro officials announced that two Kolkata metro rakes, which were manufactured by the renowned locomotive maker Dalian, had arrived in the city from China. It was stated that these rakes formed a part of a larger order consisting of 14 rakes from the firm. It was further mentioned that while one rake had already become operational, the two latest rakes had reached the Noapara shed on May 26.

It is anticipated that the remaining 11 rakes from Dalian would arrive at the city port within the next six months.

Regarding the production of Kolkata Metro rakes, it was noted that the initial 18 rakes had been produced by the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), a unit under the Ministry of Railways. These non-AC Metro rakes, equipped with a DC propulsion system, had subsequently been retired upon reaching the end of their service life.
