Kerala CM Backs Expansion of Maniyar Hydro Project

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his support for extending the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract of the Maniyar Small Hydro Electric Project. Addressing the state Assembly, he dismissed allegations of internal disagreements within the government regarding the matter.

The Chief Minister emphasised Kerala’s top ranking in ease of doing business and highlighted the importance of such contracts in fostering industrial growth. He responded to criticism from opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala by stating that self-sufficient captive power units were in line with the government's policies.

Vijayan refuted claims of discord between the industries and electricity departments over the contract extension. He underscored that continuing the agreement with Carborundum Universal was vital to meeting the power needs of local industries.
