Kanpur metro certified as Green Metro Rail System by IGBC

Kanpur Metro’s Priority Section has been awarded as Green Metro Rail System by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), one of India’s leading authorities for the rating (Silver, Gold, and Platinum) and approving a system as a green system.

All nine Metro Stations of the Priority Section constructed between IIT and Motijheel have obtained Platinum rating certificates.

Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited ( UPMRC), was given Platinum rating certificates today at an event conducted at UPMRC’s Administrative Office in Gomti Nagar, Lucknow.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the International Green Building Council (IGBC) conducted a joint survey in December, after which the nine stations of Kanpur Metro’s Priority Section obtained the highest rating (Platinum).

They make arrangements at the designing stage itself that the metro premises should be completely environmentally friendly and ready for energy conservation, Kumar Keshav told the media. UPMRC is committed to guaranteeing that the required procedures for environmental management are in place, from rainwater harvesting to energy conservation. UPMRC has touched another milestone on its way to rendering a clean and green Metro system to the public.

The Priority Section of the Kanpur Metro has already been granted ISO 14001 for environmental control and ISO 45001 for safety management.

UPMRC has planted more than 10,000 plants and saplings at different points, along with the Kanpur Metro’s Priority Section and translocated more than 100 trees to attain this highest IGBC rating.

Additionally, it has created plans to collect rainwater that falls on the roofs of the stations and the viaduct. Additionally, 100% LED lighting (in the depot, stations, and other metro properties), maximum daylighting, optimal waste management, and other green efforts were executed to save energy.
