Indore Railway Station's Major Redevelopment to Commence this January

The redevelopment of Indore Railway Station, a highly anticipated project, is scheduled to begin next month. The Railway Ministry has approved tenders for the project's first phase, which is estimated to cost approximately Rs 4.12 billion and is expected to be completed by 2027.

To maintain uninterrupted rail services during the construction, MP Shankar Lalwani urged railway officials to improve and upgrade facilities at Dr. Ambedkar Nagar (Mhow) and Lakshmi Bai Nagar railway stations. Lalwani explained that since most trains would operate from these stations during the construction period, efforts were being made to ensure adequate facilities to prevent inconvenience for passengers.

Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Indore Railway Station. Senior officials mentioned that the station, designed with a futuristic airport-like structure, aims to address the city's transportation needs for the next 50 years. The revamped station will be ten times larger than the existing one, with the capacity to handle over one lakh passengers daily, and will include parking for more than 500 cars.

However, the number of trains starting or ending at Indore Railway Station is unlikely to increase, as the number of platforms and lines will remain unchanged. In line with sustainability goals, the station will feature solar panels to supply a significant portion of its electricity needs. For passenger convenience, the modern station will also be equipped with 26 lifts and 17 escalators, according to senior officials.
