Indigo, Air India Cancel Bali Flights

Following a volcanic eruption in Bali, Indonesia, both IndiGo and Air India have canceled flights to the island, prioritizing passenger safety amidst dangerous ash clouds affecting air routes. The eruption, occurring near Bali’s Mount Agung, led to authorities issuing alerts and restricting airspace, compelling airlines to adjust operations due to low visibility and the potential for ash damage to aircraft engines. The cancellations affect flights from India to Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport, impacting numerous travelers during the holiday season.

IndiGo and Air India have assured passengers of full support, offering rebooking options and refund provisions for affected flights. IndiGo, one of India’s largest low-cost carriers, has advised passengers to monitor updates and connect with customer service for immediate assistance. Air India, which also serves the Bali route, has stated that its primary focus is ensuring passenger and crew safety while working with Indonesian authorities to determine when flights can safely resume.

Volcanic ash clouds can present severe hazards to aircraft, as they impair visibility and have the potential to damage engine components, leading to operational restrictions in the affected airspace. As weather and volcanic activity continue to be monitored, airlines are coordinating closely with meteorological and aviation authorities to assess future flights.

Passengers booked on these flights are advised to check updates from both airlines regarding flight status, safety protocols, and alternate travel arrangements. This disruption highlights the ongoing challenges posed by natural events in international aviation, particularly in regions like Indonesia, where volcanic activity is frequent.
