India’s Coal Production Reaches 928.95 MT, Up 5.73%


India’s coal sector has demonstrated strong growth, with cumulative coal production reaching 928.95 million tonnes (MT) between April 2024 and February 2025 — a 5.73% rise from 878.55 MT in the same period last year. Coal dispatch also increased by 5.50%, reaching 929.41 MT compared to 880.92 MT in the previous year. 

Production from Captive and Other entities surged 30.16% to 173.58 MT, up from 133.36 MT last year. Coal dispatch from these entities also grew by 31.90%, reaching 178.02 MT compared to 134.96 MT in the same period last year. 

This strong performance reflects India’s focus on energy security and industrial growth, with the government continuing to drive infrastructure development and operational efficiency to sustain this momentum.
