The two countries are exploring the establishment of a “corridor for renewable energy,” which aims to foster sustainable collaboration between the nations. Furthermore, Shanmugaratnam highlighted the ongoing discussions to create a “data corridor” connecting Singapore and GIFT City in Gujarat, providing a secure platform for financial institutions to exchange data.

Shanmugaratnam’s visit, a five-day diplomatic mission, included meetings with President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on enhancing the bilateral relationship. The collaboration is seen as a result of the comprehensive strategic partnership established during Prime Minister Modi's 2024 visit to Singapore.

The Singaporean leader remarked, “We are exploring initiatives beyond our current relationship, especially in advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, and sustainability.” He added that both nations are also working on new “generation and net-zero” industrial parks and developing skilling programs for emerging industries.

In line with India and Singapore's shared sustainability goals, Shanmugaratnam emphasized the importance of establishing the renewable energy corridor, which could significantly impact both countries’ energy sectors.

Reflecting on the strong ties, Shanmugaratnam noted that Singapore views India as a natural partner, particularly in India’s ambitious vision of becoming a developed nation by 2047. Singapore has been the largest investor in India for several years, and both countries maintain robust defense cooperation.

During his visit, Shanmugaratnam was also engaged with several Indian ministers, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Skill Development Minister Jayant Chaudhary.

This visit is part of the 60th-anniversary celebrations of India-Singapore diplomatic relations, marking a milestone in their “robust and multi-faceted” partnership. As part of the celebrations, President Murmu and President Shanmugaratnam unveiled a joint logo to commemorate the occasion.

The partnership between India and Singapore continues to evolve as both nations aim to deepen their cooperation, positioning Singapore as a key pillar of India’s 'Act East' policy and vision for the Indo-Pacific.
