Hyderabad Airport Metro MD Inspects Medchal and Shamirpet Rail Corridors
NVS Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Airport Metro (HAML), alongside senior engineers and technical consultants, inspected the Metro Rail corridors to Medchal and Shamirpet to resolve technical alignment issues, according to an official press release.
Due to the steep curvature of the road from Paradise to Bowenpally and airport authorities’ insistence, the HMDA elevated corridor’s alignment passes below the runway of Begumpet Airport for about 600 metres through a tunnel. However, integrating the Metro Rail corridor with this plan poses significant engineering challenges.
To address these complications, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao proposed combining the Paradise-Medchal and JBS-Shamirpet Metro corridors initially and splitting them later. Keeping this suggestion in mind, NVS Reddy and his team evaluated alternative alignments in the Cantonment area. Various roads, including JBS-Secunderabad Club Road and Bowenpally Check-Post Road, were examined to determine the best alignment with minimal private property acquisition and optimal station locations.
The inspection concluded that combining the two corridors at JBS would avoid the need for a tunnel and enable seamless integration of the Medchal corridor with the airport link, creating a continuous 60-km Metro route. Plans are also underway to develop JBS as a major Metro hub, pooling approximately 30 acre of State Government and Defence land for passenger facilities.
