Himachal Pradesh governor inspects strategic road & rail projects


The governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, conducted an inspection on Wednesday of the ongoing Kiratpur-Manali road highway project, which holds strategic importance, and the Bhanupalli-Bilaspur-Beri rail line project, being implemented by Rail Vikas Nigam Limited of New Delhi.

During the inspection, the Governor visited the underground railway crossing at Bharari and tunnel number one at Kiratpur, which spans 1.8 kilometres.

In his remarks, the Governor emphasised the significance and strategic importance of the Kiratpur to Manali road project. He stated, "This project will also contribute to the growth of the tourism sector in the state." Additionally, he mentioned that the project will provide opportunities and increased employment prospects for the local population.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, for his support of the road project. With satisfaction, he noted that the construction work on five tunnels between Kiratpur and Mandi has been completed, and an additional five tunnels are scheduled to be opened within the next three months. He instructed the authorities to ensure the timely completion of the project.

During the occasion, Varun Chari, the Project Director of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), briefed the Governor on the progress of the project. Anmol Nagpal, the Project Director of Rail Vikas Nigam, announced that a 20-kilometre track would be laid by the end of the year.
