Himachal Pradesh CM Inaugurates 10 MW Solar Power Project in Una District

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated the foundation stone laying ceremony for a new 10 MW solar power project at Aghlor, situated in the Kutlehar Assembly Constituency of Una district. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing the state's renewable energy portfolio and reducing carbon emissions.

Scheduled to be completed within three months, the solar power project will span over 19 hectares and is expected to generate approximately 22.73 million units of electricity annually. This output will translate into an income of Rs 8 crore per year, while also mitigating 791 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, according to an official statement.

Highlighting the importance of sustainable energy solutions, Chief Minister Sukhu underscored that this project is the second of its kind in Una district, following the successful completion of the 32 MW Pekhubela project within a record six-month period. The Pekhubela project is set to generate Rs 20 crore annually.

Despite Himachal Pradesh's status as a power surplus state, Chief Minister Sukhu acknowledged the seasonal challenges during winter months, prompting the state to procure electricity from the open market, which incurs substantial costs amounting to around Rs 1,500 crore annually due to reduced hydroelectric output.

In line with the state's commitment to environmental sustainability, the government has partnered with Oil India Limited for the production of green hydrogen, while also emphasizing the expansion of solar energy initiatives in both public and private sectors.

During his visit to Andrauli to inspect water sports activities, Chief Minister Sukhu reiterated the government's focus on promoting tourism as a key economic driver. He highlighted plans to develop Andrauli into a tourist hotspot to attract more visitors, thereby enhancing economic opportunities for local communities.

Tourism, Sukhu emphasized, plays a pivotal role in bolstering Himachal Pradesh's economy by providing substantial employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth. The government aims to attract five crore tourists annually in the near future, underscoring its commitment to promoting religious, adventure, and eco-tourism to enrich the visitor experience.

Overall, the inauguration of the 10 MW solar power project not only signifies a landmark achievement in renewable energy development but also underscores Himachal Pradesh's proactive approach towards sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.
