Himachal initiates compensation payments for Kangra Airport expansion
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that the Himachal Pradesh government has commenced compensation payments for the expansion of Kangra Airport, fulfilling a promise made in the first budget of the current administration.
The disbursement process begins with landowners from Jugehar village in the Shahpur area of Kangra district. A total of Rs 32.5 crore will be distributed initially, with an estimated Rs 3,500 crore allocated for compensation and rehabilitation for those affected by the land acquisition for the airport expansion.
CM Sukhu noted that the landowners welcomed this move, as it addresses a long-standing demand. He emphasized that the Kangra Airport expansion is a key priority for the government, aimed at enhancing the tourism sector in the region.
The expansion will significantly impact the tourism industry and align with the government's vision of making Kangra district the Tourism Capital of Himachal Pradesh. Plans include extending the runway from 1,376 meters to 3,010 meters, allowing for the operation of A320 aircraft.
The Chief Minister stated that the airport's expansion will create new employment and self-employment opportunities, contributing to the economic prosperity of the Kangra district.
