Gurugram Metro to Upgrade 335.52 km of Roads

In a significant move to enhance access to the upcoming Gurugram Metro, the Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. (GMRL) has identified a total of 335.52 km of roads, lanes, and adjoining areas in need of improvement. This initiative, which is part of the metro project's broader goals, focuses on improving walkability and promoting non-motorised transport (NMT) around metro stations, benefiting daily commuters and residents.

The infrastructure upgrades will include improvements to the carriageway, the development of green zones and swales, pedestrian paths, cycle paths, service roads, and the installation of infiltration trenches. GMRL has already approached various civic agencies, urging them to enhance these roads to ensure smooth access to metro stations and better multi-modal integration.

The identified roads include key corridors like the Millennium City Metro Station to Subhash Chowk, Subhash Chowk to Hero Honda Chowk, Basai Road (partially), Sector 9 Road, Railway Station to Palam Vihar, and Sushil Aima Marg up to Cyber Hub. These roads were selected based on a survey conducted by a private agency, which analyzed lanes and stations along the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) alignment that require immediate attention.

According to the survey, the 335.52 km of roads are spread across different jurisdictions. Of this, 80.19 km falls under the GMDA and HSVP, 182.27 km is under the MCG, 17.07 km is managed by HSIIDC, 23.34 km is under NHAI, and 11.57 km falls under PWD B&R. Additionally, 3.40 km is under private colonisers, and 16.69 km is managed by Eco Trails/Bundhs, primarily with MCG.

GMRL has formally requested all relevant agencies to establish clear guidelines for the Right of Way (RoW) along the metro corridor to ensure consistent and efficient infrastructure development. The GMRL initiative aims to promote walkability and facilitate easy access to the metro stations, which is expected to improve daily commutes for thousands of residents and visitors.
