Gurugram civic body launches Haryana’s first waste recovery facility

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) introduced the first material recovery facility (MRF) of Haryana in Badshahpur, which can recycle waste like plastics, glass, metals, including other such materials from the garbage.

Ecogreen Energy, waste management, and waste-to-energy company would manage the facility. It was inaugurated by Dr Vaishali Sharma, MCG additional commissioner, and has the capacity of recycling 150 tonnes of garbage daily.

The facility is less than a kilometre from Sohna Road in Gurugram Sector 66.

MCG officials told the media that every 50 garbage vehicles assigned to this facility would take at least three trips to various parts of the civic body's zone four areas to take waste from the doorsteps to the MRF.

Sanjeev Kumar, a spokesperson of Ecogreen, revealed that in the beginning, only 100 tonnes of waste would be collected and segregated at the Badshahpur MRF every day.

Sharma informed that the MRF is sticking to each norm listed by the National Green Tribunal (NGT) and the Solid Waste Management Rules (SWM), 2016.

He said it is a crucial step towards decentralising waste by segregating garbage into various kinds of dry waste and also turning organic waste into compost. It would also help in governing unauthorised sectors, including rag collectors and junkyards. PSV Reddy, chief operating officer (COO) of Ecogreen, told the media that the MRF would also begin employment in an organised way in the area. He said they have plans to take this forward to other zones to help the Clean Gurugram Mission.
