Gujarat MSMEs Seek Rs 3.36 Bn Relief After Heavy Rain Losses

In Gujarat, approximately 950 micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have reported losses due to heavy rainfall in recent months. The Gujarat government has requested a relief package of Rs 3.68 billion from the Union government to support these businesses.

This information was shared by Union Minister of State for MSMEs, Shobha Karandlaje, in a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha on November 25. According to the response, the Gujarat government reported that 958 industrial units in the state were affected by heavy rains this monsoon.

The request for compensation, amounting to Rs 36.81 crore, is for production losses caused by the heavy rains and floods that particularly impacted MSMEs in Vadodara district. In September, the Gujarat government had already announced a relief package for MSMEs in the region.

The widespread rainfall in Gujarat had significant effects on the state’s industrial estates, with businesses requesting support for the damage caused by flooding. The government’s appeal for relief aims to mitigate the losses and help MSMEs recover from the natural disaster.
