Gujarat allocates Rs 3.14 crore for infrastructure projects


The Gujarat government has sanctioned Rs 3.14 crore for 53 infrastructure development projects under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel allocated these funds to the Vadodara Municipal Corporation and the municipalities of Jasdan and Vijapur, as part of the Private Society Janbhagidari initiative.

Vadodara Municipal Corporation will receive Rs 2.78 crore for 50 projects, while Jasdan Municipality is allocated Rs 19.17 lakh for concrete road construction. Vijapur Municipality will get Rs 17.43 lakh for projects including CC roads and paver block installations.

Initiated in 2010 by then Chief Minister Narendra Modi, the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana aims to enhance basic amenities in private societies, operating on a funding model of 70:20:10, with the state government covering 70%, private societies 20%, and local bodies 10%.

Since its launch, the Gujarat government has allocated Rs 2,430 crore for 43,752 projects statewide, improving essential infrastructure like roads, drainage, water pipelines, and street lighting in private societies.

Additionally, the Union and Gujarat governments signed a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC), securing Rs 6,000 crore for Gujarat's science and technology department from the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) as part of the BharatNet program. The Gujarat Department of Science and Technology has proposed a ten-year capital expenditure (CapEx) plan and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for Rs 6,000 crore, which includes improving signal strength through fibre connectivity for remote towers and large-scale fibre-to-family initiatives.
