Govt nods 3.16 lakh houses in 17 states and UTs under PMAY


The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs said that the central government had approved the construction of 3.16 lakh houses in 17 states and Union Territories (UTs) under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban (PMAY-U) while taking the total housing sanction to 1.14 crore.

Overall, 3.61 lakh houses were approved from 17 states and UTs for construction under the Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Beneficiary-Led Construction (BLC), In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR).

The project was approved by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC), chaired by the Secretary of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Durga Shanker Mishra.

He took up the issue of the states and UTs regarding the construction of houses under the scheme. He also asked the states and the UTs to resolve the issue without delay to expedite the construction of houses.

The total number of houses sanctioned under the PMAY-U scheme is 1.14 crore, out of which over 89 lakh houses have been grounded for construction, and 52.5 lakh houses have been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries.

According to a statement, the total investment for the project is Rs 7.52 lakh crore with a Central Assistance of Rs 1.85 lakh crore. Till now, Rs 1.13 lakh crore funds have been released. CSMC has accorded approval for the revision of the projects from 14 states and UTs, translating to 3.74 lakh houses.

In a meeting by CSMC, an e-Finance module was also launched, which is integrated with all the modules of the PMAY-U MIS system. It will provide a platform to all the stakeholders for disbursement of the funds through direct benefit transfer. It will provide transparency and financial data on the online platform.

He also approved Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) in Telangana and Tamil Nadu, with 19,535 units approved for urban migrants and the poor, including the Technology Innovation Grant of Rs 39.11 crore.
