Govt approves 4-lane highway project in Mizoram

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced government approval for the construction of a four-lane section on NH-6, spanning from N Kawnpui (N.Mualvum) to Sairang, along the Silchar ? Valrengte ? Sairang road in Mizoram's Aizawl and Kolasib districts. The 24.41 km project will be implemented under the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) mode as part of the National Highway (Original) ? North East (NH(O)-NE) initiative, as revealed by Gadkari on the social media platform X.

Gadkari highlighted that the envisioned road infrastructure aims to ensure smooth traffic flow without disruption from local traffic in developed areas. The objective is to alleviate congestion in urban zones, thereby enhancing road safety in these built-up areas.

The minister emphasised that this strategic project also intends to bypass heavily populated areas, reduce congestion, and improve road safety in the city of Aizawl. Furthermore, it aims to shorten the length of the existing National Highway by 25 kilometres, from Vairengte to Sairang.
