A 2010 survey by De Beers, the world's leading diamond producer, identified Kimberlite and Lamproite formations—rock types known to host diamonds—in the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, and Bolangir. Despite these discoveries, diamond mining in Odisha is yet to commence, as exploration efforts remain in the early stages.
