Over the past five years, the government has systematically released funds for EV public charging stations (EVPCS), with a major disbursement of Rs 560 crore in FY 2022-23 and ?51.45 crore in FY 2023-24. This investment aims to accelerate the adoption of electric mobility across the country.

The Ministry of Power’s "Guidelines for Installation and Operation of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure-2024", issued on 17th September 2024, promote sustainable energy integration by encouraging EV charging during solar hours at concessional tariffs and supporting solar carports in bus depots. The guidelines also emphasise public-private partnerships, simplifying the licensing process for setting up charging stations and promoting a revenue-sharing model for land allocation.

To facilitate affordable access to land, public land will be made available to government and public entities at Rs 1 per kWh, while private entities can acquire land through competitive bidding with a floor price of ?1 per kWh. Furthermore, state governments have been advised to allow round-the-clock operations of battery swapping stations (BSS), ensuring seamless EV adoption and infrastructure expansion across India.
