District Development Panel reviews key infra projects in Thiruvananthapuram
A district development committee meeting chaired by District Collector Anu Kumari took place on Saturday to assess the progress of crucial development projects in Thiruvananthapuram. A key focus of the discussion was the urgent need to expedite land acquisition for the Balaramapuram-Vazhimukku road project, which currently experiences severe traffic congestion during peak hours.
Parassala MLA C.K. Hareendran and Kovalam MLA M. Vincent stressed the importance of completing the project quickly, noting that while land acquisition efforts had begun, they were moving at a slow pace.
In addition to the road project, Hareendran highlighted the Neyyar Dam tourist destination, which is reported to be 50% complete by the major irrigation department. He urged officials to hasten the completion of the Kerala Water Authority's maintenance work and Jal Jeevan Mission activities in the Parassala constituency. Other projects discussed included the Amboori grama panchayat tourism initiative, the construction of a Siddha hospital in the Puravimala and Thodumala tribal areas, and ongoing work on the Karamana-Vazhimukku-Kaliyikkavila road.
The meeting also reviewed the construction of the Balaramapuram sub-registrar office, the Kakkamoola bridge, and the Pozhikara tourism project. Officials from the minor irrigation department reported that tenders for the Vellayani Lake rejuvenation project are progressing. Additionally, the public works NH division noted that drain work on the Vizhinjam-Poovar road is underway, with tarring expected to commence soon. The meeting was held at the collectorate conference hall and attended by district planning officer V.S. Biju, MPs, MLAs, and various district-level officials.
