Digi Yatra to be made available in regional, international languages

A senior official has indicated that Digi Yatra, which aims to provide seamless movement at airport checkpoints, will soon be made available in both regional and international languages. Currently operational at 24 airports, the facility is expected to expand to 4-5 additional airports in the coming months.

Suresh Khadakbhavi, CEO of Digi Yatra Foundation, mentioned that a pilot project is anticipated by June next year, which will connect two countries through Digi Yatra, allowing foreign citizens to utilise the service. During his address at the CAPA India Digital Aviation Summit in the national capital, Khadakbhavi also revealed plans for a campaign to raise passenger awareness about the facility. While Digi Yatra has been gradually gaining traction, concerns have been raised regarding the privacy of passengers' data.

He confirmed that Digi Yatra would be available in multiple languages and explained that it utilises Facial Recognition Technology (FRT) to enable contactless, seamless movement of passengers at airport checkpoints. The Digi Yatra Foundation, established as a not-for-profit entity, serves as the nodal agency for the initiative, which was introduced in December 2022. Its shareholders include the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the international airports of Cochin, Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
