DHBVN to connect Manesar, Badshahpur in Gurugram Smart Grid project
The Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) has decided to integrate industrial areas in Manesar and residential and commercial regions along Badshahpur into its Smart Grid project, according to sources familiar with the development. A senior DHBVN official stated that they are in the process of preparing estimates for the inclusion of Manesar and Badshahpur in the Smart Grid initiative. This decision follows requests from industrialists in Gurugram and Manesar for the authority to eliminate unscheduled power outages.
VK Aggarwal, Chief Engineer of the Smart Grid, mentioned that estimates are being drafted to expand the Smart Grid project to areas around Badshahpur and Manesar, which house numerous industrial units. Approval from both the state and central governments will be sought, and depending on the availability of funds, new electricity infrastructure will be established in these regions similar to that in Gurugram city.
The Smart Grid project was launched by DHBVN in July 2018, covering Sectors 1-57. This initiative includes the installation of smart meters to measure power consumption, the underground relocation of overhead 11 Kv power lines, and the upgrading of transformers, among other measures aimed at enhancing the quality and reliability of the power supply. Currently, at least 80 per cent of Gurugram is covered under the Smart Grid project. The areas where the Smart Grid has been implemented have largely avoided unscheduled power cuts, load shedding, and routine electricity faults due to the underground power cables and the establishment of new feeders.
Aggarwal indicated that the remaining parts of Gurugram would soon be included in the Smart Grid project. He noted that one of the contractors failed to complete the job, leading DHBVN to cancel the contract. However, efforts will be made to complete the work as soon as possible.
He also mentioned that the tender for setting up the high-tech Scada (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) system, which will manage electricity distribution and supply, would be awarded soon. Three companies have been identified as eligible for this project.
