Delhi Transport Minister Gahlot urges gig workers to embrace EVs

Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot lauded gig workers, including those from food delivery services, as 'Pradushan Yodha' (warriors against pollution) during an event organised by Zomato and Blinkit at Talkatora Stadium. Gahlot highlighted the crucial role these workers play in the economy by ensuring timely deliveries of essentials and meals.

Addressing the crowd, Gahlot praised their dedication and emphasised the environmental benefits of electric vehicles (EVs). He urged gig workers to adopt EVs as part of a broader effort to reduce pollution in Delhi. "Your commitment to both your work and environmental protection is commendable. Together, let’s strive for a pollution-free Delhi by transitioning to electric vehicles," Gahlot said.

He highlighted the significance of EVs not only as a technological advancement but also as a vital step towards reducing urban pollution. Gahlot encouraged platform partners to actively participate in this shift and commended initiatives like EV Bazaar, which aim to raise awareness among gig workers.

The minister also engaged with electric two-wheeler manufacturers to explore various lease models that could lower the initial cost of EVs for delivery partners. Additionally, he referenced the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme, 2023, which mandates a phased transition to an all-electric fleet by April 1, 2030, as part of the city’s move towards sustainable urban mobility.
