Delhi Metro introduces 'CarbonLite Metro Travel’

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced a novel offering for its passengers: real-time information about the carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions they are preventing while using the metro. This groundbreaking endeavour, labelled 'CarbonLite Metro Travel', is designed to enlighten travellers about their meaningful role in curbing carbon emissions by opting for metro trains over conventional road vehicles, as conveyed in an official statement.

The initiative, backed by an extensive study carried out by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) located in Delhi, underscores that substituting a kilometre travelled by a metro train for a road vehicle leads to a substantial reduction of 32.38 grams of CO2 emissions, as added in the statement.

Aligned with India's ambition to achieve net-zero emissions by 2070, this initiative aims to accentuate the vital contribution of every individual in combatting the urgent challenge of climate change through their transportation preferences, as stated by the DMRC.

Data related to the diminished CO2 emissions attributed to metro travel will be conspicuously exhibited on both traditional paper tickets and modern QR code-based mobile tickets, ensuring widespread awareness of the favourable outcomes of eco-friendly public transportation, affirmed officials.

This feature is slated to debut on QR code-based tickets starting from Thursday, as stated by officials.

The statement elaborates that through this initiative, commuters will receive insights into the average volume of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions they conserve on their metro voyages, drawing a parallel with conventional road-based motor vehicles.
