Delhi Metro Adds Calorie Counters to Promote Fitness
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has introduced calorie counter signage at five key metro stations—Rajiv Chowk, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, Barakhamba Road, and Supreme Court—to encourage healthier commuting habits. These signboards, placed near escalators and staircases, display the number of calories burned when taking the stairs instead of the escalator.
According to DMRC, the initiative aims to promote cardiovascular health while also aligning with the Ministry of Environment’s Lifestyle for Environment (LIFE) campaign, which advocates for sustainable and health-conscious practices.
By opting for the stairs, commuters not only improve their fitness but also contribute to reducing their carbon footprint, making metro travel more eco-friendly.
