Delhi LG Reviews Noida Airport Progress and Land Acquisition Strategy

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor (LG), Vinai Kumar Saxena, visited the Noida Airport site in Jewar to assess its progress and gain insight into the large-scale land acquisition process for the airport and related development projects in the region. He commended the Uttar Pradesh government for the swift development of the airport, achieved in a remarkably short timeframe. Accompanied by his team, including Secretary Surendra Singh and other officials, Saxena, who also serves as the Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), arrived at the site around 11:45 am. He was welcomed by Jewar MLA Dhirendra Singh and other officials. During the visit, Christoph Schnellmann, CEO of Yamuna International Airport Limited (YIAPL), provided an update on the airport’s progress, while Shailendra Bhatia, nodal officer for Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL), outlined the connectivity plans for the airport. A key focus of the visit was understanding the dispute-free land acquisition process for the airport. Officials briefed Saxena on the measures taken under the Land Acquisition Act to ensure smooth transactions, emphasising the benefits provided to farmers and the process of securing their consent before land acquisition. The LG's secretary described the visit as a valuable knowledge-sharing exercise aimed at learning best practices in land acquisition and development for greenfield airport projects. Saxena highlighted the significance of these insights for urban development in the National Capital Region (NCR), where coordination among government bodies is crucial for effective planning and decision-making. In addition to the airport visit, Saxena toured the Medical Device Park in Sector 28 and was briefed on other key development projects in the area, including the proposed International Film City, Raya Heritage City, New Agra Urban Center, Apparel Park, Toy Park, and Semiconductor Park. Yamuna Authority officials presented updates on these initiatives. (ET)
