Committees established to fast-track Gurugram Metro rail project

To accelerate the progress of the Gurugram Metro rail project, the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) have established an executive committee and a coordination committee. These panels aim to streamline the construction process by coordinating with various agencies.

The newly formed committees will work on finalising the Metro viaduct alignment, operational structures, station locations, and the design and construction of intermodal transfer facilities. They will play a crucial role in ensuring seamless coordination among multiple agencies involved in the Rs 54.52 billion Gurugram Metro extension project.

GMRL has urged land-owning agencies to assist in the project by identifying green spaces and water bodies along the Metro alignment that can be rejuvenated. Additionally, these agencies have been asked to review pedestrian infrastructure within 500 to 800 meters of the Metro route to enhance connectivity.

The executive committee comprises senior officials from eight key departments, while the coordination committee includes 25 members from various agencies, including GMDA and Gurugram traffic police. These committees will also focus on integrating public spaces, such as green and blue areas, with Metro facilities and ensuring well-connected roads, footpaths, and lighting at intersections.

GMRL, a special purpose vehicle formed by the Haryana government last year, is tasked with executing the 28.5 km Metro extension from Millennium City Centre to Cyber Hub. The new Metro line will include 27 stations and two interchanges at Sector 29 and Palam Vihar, significantly expanding the city's Metro network.
