Coal Sector Hits Record Production and Dispatch in 2024
The Ministry of Coal has announced record-breaking achievements in coal production and dispatch for the calendar year 2024, underscoring its commitment to energy security and the vision of a Self-Reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat). Coal production reached an unprecedented 1,039.59 MT in 2024, showing a 7.28 per cent increase from 2023’s total of 969.07 MT. The Ministry's efforts to enhance domestic coal availability have been key in meeting the growing energy demands.
Coal dispatches also set a new record, reaching 1,012.72 MT in 2024, a 6.56 per cent increase from the previous year’s 950.39 MT. This growth in production and dispatch highlights the sector’s vital role in ensuring a steady supply of coal for power generation and other industries.
The Ministry continues to focus on optimising production and improving infrastructure, aligning with the broader goal of reducing coal import dependence and bolstering long-term energy sustainability.
