Coal India plans to complete 35 FMC projects by FY 2023-24
The world's largest coal producer and a Maharatna public sector undertaking (PSU), Coal India Limited (CIL), is upgrading the coal transportation facilities in its mines, and it will complete 35 First Mile Connectivity (FMC) projects by FY 23-24. These projects will help dispatch 415 million tonnes (mt) of coal annually.

The company contributes about 80% of the total coal production in India, using the First Mile Connectivity (FMC) initiative to upgrade coal transportation facilities in the mines of Coal India Limited (CIL).

The FMC projects will eliminate road transportation of coal from pitheads to despatch points. To enable the FMC, CIL must lay new railway lines, construct new railway sidings, and construct mechanized coal handling plants (CHPs) with silos.

FMC ensures coal transportation using mechanized conveyors and computerized Rapid Loading Systems (RLS). It will help in efficiently supplying coal to the power plants.

FMC provides an eco-friendly mode of transportation while eliminating dust during coal transportation. It will also improve the measurement of coal, fuel-saving, transportation and logistics costs.
