Civil construction on Line 9 and 7A cost MMRDA Rs 19.98 billion so far

At a cost of Rs 66 billion, the MMRDA is constructing the 13.83 km long Mumbai Metro Line 7A and Line 9, which connects Mira-Bhayander with the suburbs of Mumbai. According to the response to an RTI request, a staggering Rs 92.5 million was used to deploy traffic wardens and supervisors. The MMRDA has also invested Rs 143.7 million since 2020 to reroute a sewer line that runs parallel to Line 7A's track near the airport, and Rs 490 million to reroute high-tension lines.

On the metro corridors that are being built in the city and the Mumbai Metropolitan Area, a newspaper had submitted an RTI to the MMRDA. The proposal requested details such as the overall cost of construction for Line 9, which includes eight stations, and the amount spent from the date of tender allocation in January 2020 through February 20, 2023. The MMRDA responded, revealing that Rs 19.98 billion has already been spent on civil work for Line 9 and 7A.

The MMRDA has spent Rs 349 million to engage a detail design consultant (DDC) for architectural and building services for civil works, depot, stations, staff quarters, and auxiliary structures for Line 9 and part of Line 5. The amounts spent for the appointment of a general consultant (GC) for civil work of Line 9 and part of Line 5 are Rs 2,230 million and Rs 206.4 million, respectively.

The response states that Rs 498.7 million was spent on various tasks related to the 220/110kv M/C Ghodbunder-Versova transmission line between two locations close to Silver Park and the 220kv Dahanu-Versova transmission line between two locations close to Shahid Bhagat Singh Garden, both of which are owned by AEML. The MMRDA also spent Rs 861.2 million to establish a new police station in Navghar, while Rs 143.7 million was paid to divert a 1,800 mm diameter sewer pipe that crossed Line 7A's path close to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. In a press release earlier, MMRDA reported that the three-tier Medetia Nagar station on Line 9 is 63.63% finished.
