Chikhali water treatment plant expected to be inaugurated this week

The civic authority is testing 50 million liters of Andra dam water at its Chikhali water treatment plant (WTP) and plans to open the facility in the coming days, putting an end to inhabitants' lengthy wait for adequate water supply.

PCMC commissioner Shekhar Singh said that the plant would be inaugurated this week. It is scheduled to open in the first week of May without confirming a precise date.

The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has set aside 100 million liters of water from the Andra dam to be processed at the Chikhali WTP. However, testing of 50 mld water is already underway to keep an eye on potential contaminants.

According to a city official, portions of Chikhali, Moshi, and Bhosari have been receiving 50 mld water supply for testing purposes.

"It is just that the civic body does not want to confirm it officially before the inauguration. The water is already being distributed to the citizens. The department was also checking the possible leakages in the supply network to plug them at the earliest," said the official.

Despite the water distribution, he added, there have been a few concerns about water supply from huge housing societies. Housing societies receive approximately 90 litres per capita per day (lpcd) of water per person, with the remainder arranged through grey water recycling or STP.
