Chennai Metro Expansion: Rs 9,744 Cr Plan Submitted
Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has submitted a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for a 21.76 km metro extension from Koyambedu to Pattabiram via Outer Ring Road, aiming to enhance connectivity in the city’s western suburbs.
The project, estimated at $1.17 billion, includes 19 elevated stations, providing seamless access to key transport hubs. The new metro corridor will pass through major areas like Padi Pudhu Nagar, Mogappair, Ambattur, Thirumullaivoyal, and Avadi, before reaching Pattabiram. It will improve integration with the city’s transport infrastructure by connecting to Ambattur Estate Terminus, Avadi Railway Station, and Avadi Bus Terminus.
A key feature of the project is the construction of three integrated flyovers at Ambattur Estate bus depot junction, Dunlop, and Avadi Bus Stand. These structures will help reduce congestion and streamline construction costs, ensuring efficient project execution.
With rapid urbanisation in Chennai’s western suburbs, this metro extension is expected to provide a reliable and efficient public transport solution, reducing dependency on road travel and easing traffic congestion.
