Central Railway's Mumbai stations set for grand revamp

The multi-crore redevelopment plan for the Central Railway's Parel, Kanjurmarg, and Vikhroli stations encompasses a range of enhancements, including stylish architecture, improved commuting facilities, and elevated aesthetics for platforms, lifts, escalators, and more. The initial designs for this ambitious project have been formulated by railway authorities and were disclosed to the public on Sunday during the laying of foundation stones at these stations.

These three stations are part of Mumbai's Central Railway and are included in the broader revitalisation initiative known as the Amrit Bharat scheme. The estimated cost for the redevelopment of these three stations is projected to be approximately Rs 650 million. Nationally, a total of 508 stations, selected from a pool of 1,309 nominated stations, will undergo redevelopment in the initial phase of the Amrit Bharat scheme. The foundational stones for all 508 of these stations were laid on Sunday.

The upcoming transformation of the Parel, Kanjurmarg, and Vikhroli stations on the Central Railway is expected to bring about an improved commuting experience, enhanced passenger comfort, and the creation of elegant station structures. The new station buildings are set to redefine the architectural landscape with a modern aesthetic. As part of the Swachh Bharat mission, the introduction of a modular sewage treatment plant will ensure efficient sewage processing.

Additional enhancements encompass platform resurfacing, visually appealing platform wall landscaping, upgraded seating arrangements, provision of clean drinking water facilities, and enhanced lighting and ventilation within both the station building and platforms. The stations will feature modernised train indication boards and user-friendly signage to facilitate seamless navigation, with specific attention given to making the upgrades accommodating for individuals with disabilities.

In the Mumbai Suburban segment of the Central Railway, a significant overhaul will be witnessed across stations such as Byculla, Chinchpokli, Parel, Matunga, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mumbra, Diva, Shahad, Titwala, Igatpuri, Wadala, and Sandhurst Road.

Similarly, stations like Mumbai Central, Dadar, Charni Road, Grant Road, Malad, Borivali, and Prabhadevi on the Western Railway will also undergo comprehensive redevelopment as part of this initiative.
