Builder Arrested for Rs 300 Crore Fraud in Gurugram

The Delhi Police have arrested Varun Puri, a 38-year-old builder, for allegedly cheating 485 flat buyers in Gurugram out of over Rs 300 crore. Puri, who had been declared a proclaimed offender and was wanted in 45 cases, was apprehended in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, on October 25.

Puri, along with his brother Vikram and father Raman, ran Universal Buildwell Private Limited, which launched the Universal Aura project in Sector-92, Gurugram. Despite collecting Rs 300 crore from buyers, the company failed to deliver the promised flats, leading to multiple complaints across Delhi-NCR.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered five cases against the company. A Rs 1 lakh reward was announced for the arrest of Varun, his brother, and their father. After extensive surveillance, Puri was nabbed by a police team led by inspectors Manender Singh, Neeraj Kumar, and Sundeep Yadav under ACP Sanjay Dutt's supervision.
