BMC chief honoured with Mumbai Ratna Award
Iqbal Singh Chalal, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner, was bestowed with the ‘Mumbai Ratna Award’ on Monday for the city's successful fight against Covid-19. Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari presented the award to him at Raj Bhavan.
Chahal has been widely credited for being the architect of the internationally acclaimed 'Mumbai Covid fight model for keeping the Covid-19 under check in Mumbai that effectively controlled the spread of the pandemic in the city.
Chalal told the media that he dedicates the honour to Team BMC and that it would have been beyond imagination, even to think of such an honour, without a stellar performance of Team BMC. He said that Team BMC would continue to do its best in future also.
Chalal, through new field hospitals, added thousands of beds, and private facilities handed over their Covid-19 wards to the government, with 800 vehicles being turned into ambulances.
