Bhopal Metro will offer Airport-Like Facilities

The ongoing construction of the metro line linking Subhash Nagar to AIIMS in Bhopal is progressing rapidly, with recent successful trial runs conducted by the authorities. Spanning a distance of 6.2 km, this corridor is expected to become operational in the coming months, facilitated by the swift pace of development. In line with this progress, the Metro Rail Corporation of Madhya Pradesh plans to equip stations along this route with airport-like amenities, including food plazas and shops, following a model similar to the Indore metro station.

The current status of the metro construction indicates that the priority corridor, encompassing Subhash Nagar to AIIMS, RKMP, Subhash Nagar, Kendriya School, in front of DB Mall, and MP Nagar, is nearly 90% complete. Meanwhile, stations such as DRM Chauraha, AIIMS, and Alkapuri are approximately 60% finished. With these stations being built over a large area and offering various amenities like shops, food plazas, and ATMs, authorities anticipate significant revenue generation.

Plans for the second phase of the metro are slated to commence in June and July, with an allocated budget of Rs 1,540 crore for laying an 8.77 km line between Subhash Nagar and Karond, including a 3.39 km underground stretch. Underground stations will include Bhopal Railway Station and Nadra Bus Stand, connected via tunnels passing through Sindhi Colony and Aishbagh Crossing. Additionally, six elevated stations, including Pul Bogda, Aishbagh, Sindhi Colony, DIG Bungalow, Krishi Upaj Mandi, and Karond, will be constructed above ground. The entirety of the Orange Line, spanning from AIIMS to Karond, measures 14.99 km.
