BCCL's Dhanbad Hospital Becomes Leading DNB Training Hub

Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a Coal India subsidiary, has significantly bolstered its contribution to India’s healthcare education by expanding DNB (Diplomate of National Board) training programs at its Central Hospital Dhanbad (CHD). With the addition of Ophthalmology, CHD now offers DNB training in five key medical specialisations, making it the most comprehensive DNB training center among all Coal India subsidiaries. Available DNB Programs at CHD: • General Medicine: 4 seats (3-year post-MBBS course) • General Surgery: 2 seats (3-year post-MBBS course) • Anaesthesia: 2 seats (1 post-MBBS 3-year + 1 post-diploma 2-year course) • Family Medicine: 2 seats (2-year post-MBBS diploma) • Ophthalmology: 2 seats (2-year post-MBBS diploma) The DNB qualification, awarded by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), is considered equivalent to MD/MS degrees in India, ensuring rigorous standards of education and training. To build internal capabilities and support regional healthcare, 50% of the seats are reserved for in-house doctors from Coal India and its subsidiaries. The rest are open to aspiring specialists from across the country, encouraging both diversity and excellence in training. This expansion aligns with BCCL’s CSR goals, reflecting a holistic commitment to nation-building through healthcare, education, and community development. CMD Shri Samiran Dutta stated, “BCCL has positioned CHD as a leader in healthcare education within the CIL network, reinforcing our vision for robust and accessible medical infrastructure.” (PIB)
