BBMP Proposes Rs 150 Bn Plan for Traffic Decongestion with Elevated Corridors
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has unveiled a traffic decongestion plan worth Rs 150 billion, which includes several projects such as elevated corridors, double-decker roads, and underpasses.
The proposed projects, covering 124.7 km, aim to ease congestion and streamline the flow of traffic across Bengaluru. According to a senior BBMP engineer, the plan includes 11 elevated projects, with the five longest corridors alone estimated to cost approximately Rs 10,000 crore.
Some key projects include a 27 km corridor linking Yeshwanthpur to KR Puram and a 15 km elevated corridor connecting Nagawara Junction to Bagalur. Another notable proposal is a 13 km double-decker elevated corridor from Hosahalli to Kadabagere Cross along Magadi Road, which will cost Rs 1,560 crore.
The BBMP is also exploring shorter elevated corridors, flyovers, and underpasses as part of the plan. The state budget is expected to include funding for these large-scale projects, which are critical for alleviating the city’s traffic woes.
