Assam CM Unveils Rs 1.1 Billion Projects in Jorhat
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated infrastructure projects worth Rs 1.1 billion in Jorhat, aimed at boosting urban development, transportation, and administrative services.
Key highlights include the launch of a Convention Centre at Chinnamara, built at a cost of Rs 199.8 million, featuring a seating capacity of 120, media hall, exclusive lounge, and suites. A two-lane flyover connecting Jorhat Medical College to Mission Hospital was also inaugurated. Constructed on the NFR route for Rs 782.7 million, the 581.2-meter-long structure is expected to ease traffic congestion.
Sarma also opened an Automated Vehicle Testing Station worth Rs 125 million, replacing manual fitness tests in Jorhat, Golaghat, and Sivasagar districts. A similar facility in Biswanath was inaugurated on March 31 for Rs 155.7 million.
Providing project updates, Sarma noted that the Jorhat DC office is 50% complete and will be operational by early 2026, while the Bhogdoi flyover is targeted for completion by March 2026. He also announced a Rs 1.8 billion Freedom Struggle Memorial Museum at Jorhat Central Jail, a site linked to Assam’s independence movement.
Additionally, the CM laid the foundation stone for the Co-District Commissioner’s office in Naduar, Sonitpur, part of a broader plan to set up such offices in 96 constituencies with Rs 200 million allocated for each. These offices will oversee disaster management, public fund disbursement, and panchayat elections.
Under the Assam Mala scheme, Sarma announced a 20-km road from Itakhola to Diplonga and a Rs 70 million bridge on the Biswanath-Panpur road.
He also visited the memorial of warrior Mula Gabharu, sanctioning Rs 4 million for its renovation, and inspected the 107-year-old Madhuri Aahat Mukoli Bihutoli, proposing plans for its development.
The events were attended by ministers Ajanta Neog and Jogen Mohan, multiple MLAs, and senior officials.
