Around 180 Illegal Structures Razed in Kanpur

The enforcement wing of Kanpur Municipal Corporation (KMC) demolished around 180 structures, including 25 permanent ones that were constructed unlawfully. The operation was led by Mayor Pramila Pandey. It began at Bhairav Ghat crossing and proceeded towards KD Palace, passing through the Gwaltoli area. According to official sources, four trucks of household belongings belonging to the encroachers were seized. Earlier, the enforcement wing had demolished 120 structures, including 40 pucca illegal constructions along Sisamau Nullah on Friday.

Despite resistance from residents, the mayor emphasized that illegal structures would not be tolerated and would be removed. She issued a stern warning to those occupying unlawful properties, stating that the operation would continue. She also made it clear that anyone who had built kuchcha or pucca illegal structures along the Sisamau drain should vacate them voluntarily; otherwise, KMC would demolish the structures and impose penalties.

Later, the mayor visited the Beconganj locality to inspect closed temples in the area. A KMC survey revealed that more than 120 temples in Muslim-dominated areas were shuttered, with over twelve closed in Sunar Wali Gali. Upon her inspection, the mayor found that the temple premises had been illegally occupied and sealed with shutters. After attempting to break the shutter locks, she inspected all temples in the lane and discovered unauthorised constructions on the premises. She instructed the locals to remove the illegal structures from the temple areas.

The mayor also visited the Radha Krishna temple in the locality, which, after being cleared of encroachments, was found to be in a deteriorating condition. She assured that all temples would be reopened and restored.
