Akasa Air set to start Gorakhpur flights by end of May

Akasa Air has declared the inclusion of Gorakhpur as the 23rd destination on its network, offering direct connections to and from Delhi and Bengaluru, starting from May 29. The airline stated that the commencement of these flights would establish it as the sole carrier offering daily flights between Bengaluru and Gorakhpur.

In a press statement, the airline mentioned, "With this introduction, the airline reinforces its presence in Uttar Pradesh, with Gorakhpur becoming the fifth destination in the state, following Lucknow, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj." It further added that bookings for the flights are now accessible on its website, app, and through travel agents.

Gorakhpur, known for its handloom and small-scale industries, is a significant industrial centre in Uttar Pradesh. With a notable emphasis on promoting development in the area, including advancing infrastructure, the city is observing an increase in travellers. "The commencement of daily flights from Delhi and Bengaluru to Gorakhpur will contribute to economic activity in the region and offer improved connectivity choices to travellers," it stated.

Regarding the announcement, Praveen Iyer, Co-Founder and Chief Commercial Officer of Akasa Air, expressed, "We are delighted to introduce Gorakhpur as our 23rd destination on the network. We believe that these flights will enhance direct connectivity with two major cities, facilitating mobility and accessibility within Gorakhpur while fostering trade and commerce. Akasa Air will persist in expanding its network to meet the needs of both business and leisure travelers. We continuously strive to provide our customers with flexibility of options, alongside punctual, cost-effective, and dependable travel alternatives." Belson Coutinho, Co-Founder and Chief Marketing & Experience Officer of Akasa Air, remarked, "We are thrilled to extend the Akasa experience to Gorakhpur as we broaden and reinforce our presence across the nation."

Recently, Akasa Air raised the allowable weight for pet carriage in passenger cabins from 7 kgs to 10 kgs (including the container weight). This adjustment was part of the enhancements made to its pet-travel service - 'Pets on Akasa', which has transported over 3,200 pets since its launch in November 2022. Additionally, the airline announced the implementation of an enhanced travel certificate policy to offer increased flexibility for customers. "Travel certificates issued for pets will now be valid for up to 15 days instead of three days, facilitating convenience for customers traveling on short-term return trips. Customers embarking on trips lasting longer than 15 days will need to obtain a new travel certificate," it clarified.
