Adani-JKH Terminal at Colombo Operational Soon


The Adani Group and John Keells Holdings (JKH) have announced that their joint venture terminal at Colombo Port in Sri Lanka is expected to become operational by the first quarter of the 2025 calendar year. This new terminal, known as the West Container Terminal (WCT), is one of the largest projects at the Colombo Port, a crucial maritime hub for South Asia and a key transshipment point for cargo bound for India and other international destinations.

The Adani-JKH venture is designed to enhance the port's capacity, increasing container handling capabilities and strengthening Sri Lanka’s position in the region’s logistics and trade infrastructure. The terminal is set to span a quay length of approximately 1,400 meters and will be equipped with advanced cranes and automated systems, making it capable of handling the latest generation of container ships. With this development, the Colombo Port aims to increase efficiency and attract more global shipping lines.

The WCT, once operational, is expected to have a major positive impact on trade between India and Sri Lanka and will boost Colombo’s role as a regional transshipment hub. This investment marks Adani Ports’ growing influence in international ports and logistics, aligning with its broader strategy to expand its footprint in strategic global locations. For Sri Lanka, the terminal signifies a key step in revitalizing its economy through increased trade activity, job creation, and foreign investment.
