About 50% Gen Z prefer solar solutions: Survey
A recent survey aimed at assessing awareness of clean energy sources indicated that around 50% of Gen Z respondents favour solar solutions, with Millennials following at 46%. The survey involved 4,318 participants from four age groups across five metropolitan cities "Bangalore, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kolkata, and Mumbai" and eight non-metropolitan areas, including Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Gurugram, Guwahati, Jaipur, Kochi, Lucknow, and Patna, conducted between February and March 2024.
Gen Z was defined as individuals aged 18-22, Millennials as those aged 23-38, Gen X as 39-54, and Baby Boomers as 55-76. According to Luminous Power Technologies' MD and CEO, Preeti Bajaj, the shift in consumer needs and demand trends offers a clear understanding of evolving perceptions, challenges, and opportunities in solar energy adoption in India.
The study highlighted growing awareness of alternatives to traditional energy sources among Indians, with 97% of respondents not yet having installed a solar rooftop system in their homes. Regarding accessibility, the survey revealed that 28% of Baby Boomers found solar energy solutions to be inaccessible, while Millennials encountered the least difficulty, with only 21% expressing concerns. Gen X and Gen Z were close behind, with 23% and 25%, respectively, noting challenges with accessibility. Additionally, the majority agreed that the lack of specialised skills and skilled labour is a significant obstacle to the widespread adoption of solar energy solutions.
