AAI Plans Expansion of Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is planning to expand Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad as it nears saturation, handling 600 daily passengers against its capacity of 700–800. The expansion plan is under consideration at AAI headquarters, officials confirmed on Monday.

Current Operations and New Routes The airport is set to launch a new route to Bhubaneswar, with airlines already opening bookings. Existing flights operate to Kolkata, Chennai, Goa, Bengaluru (two routes), Mumbai, and Jammu. Since 2024, flights have also connected Adampur, Nanded, Kishangarh, Ludhiana, and Bathinda.

Operational Constraints & Proposed Enhancements Hindon Airport shares a runway with the Indian Air Force, restricting civil flight operations to daytime hours. Ghaziabad MP Atul Garg has urged AAI to introduce flights to Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, and Lucknow. To accommodate increasing traffic, the airport has doubled its seating arrangements and enhanced security infrastructure.

With its growing network and demand, Hindon Airport is poised for further infrastructural development, reinforcing its role as a key regional aviation hub.
